“If what you call your ‘faith’ in Christ does not involve taking the slightest notice of what he says, then it is not Faith at all, not Faith or Trust in Him, but only intellectual acceptance of some theory about Him.” – Clive Staples Lewis

I LOVE this quotation. I just found it recently, and it really encapsulates what I love to rant about… that a relationship with the Almighty God cannot be only intellectual, nor can it be solely heartfelt… but rather it must be both, so that the WHOLE person is WHOLLY given to God. It is so easy to tip the scales either way, and put too much emphasis on one or the other. I think that much of church history has been about trying to find that balance. Of course, praise God that we aren’t expected to do that on our own strength, because surely we will fail.

And I fail, over and over again. I wonder if God is displeased with my failings, if perhaps I fail more often than most others, if he is pleased with me. I cannot seem to rid myself of this burden of sin… I know that I an forgiven, but I still want to put my faith into action by obeying Christ. But yet I fail.

A connundrum.
